Mingles - Dual Autopanner and Dual 3 Channel Mixer/VCA || After Later Audio + Robots Are Red.

video upload by Robots Are Red

"Mix a synth patch and use Mingles as the VCA.
Blend a signal between two different outputs.
Autopan a mono signal.
Stereoize even more, an already stereo signal.

Mingles is a 12hp Dual 3 Input Mixer with attenuators for each signal, and a large panning knob for each of the two channels. There is a stereo output for each of the two channels, and a mixed stereo output of both channels. There is an internal LFO (Triangle or Pulse) that can be applied to each of the two channel’s panning. The LFO is inverted on channel 2 to allow for mirrored panning between the two channels.

There is also a VCA and external panning CV input in each of the two channels, along with a CV input for control of the LFO rate, and there is an LFO output.

The LFO can be switched between Triangle and Pulse waves with a jumper on the back of the module.

A huge thanks to After Later Audio for helping make this idea I had over 2 years ago a reality!

VIP Mixer Series - Bartender, Barback, and Send VCA | After Later Audio | Full Demo and Walkthrough

video upload by Robots Are Red

"Bartender is a 24hp 4 Channel Expandable Stereo Performance Mixer. There are two stereo sends, DJ cue headphone out, stereo and mono master output, stereo/mono switch for each input, post/pre sends, 3 way mute switch with momentary mute, panning, and cv control over pan and the level VCA. You can also expand a Bartender with another Bartender!

Barback is a 10hp 2 Channel Stereo Mixer Expander module for Bartender. Connect them together on the back of the modules and add 2 extra stereo channels with send/return accessibility to your mix.

Send VCA gives you CV control over the Send VCA. When connected, the Send VCA CV inputs will open up the send VCA all the way to the max limit set by each send knob.

All three modules are available now and can be found at After Later Audio’s website:

CRUMAR PERFORMER COMPARISON - BOTH FILTER VERSIONS

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"This is a dry - very dry - comparison video of the two iterations of the first model of the Crumar Performer - a string and brass machine.

There was also a second model Performer, the Performer 2, with a slightly different look, but I've never played that one - it's quite rare.

What makes the biggest difference between the early and late production run of the first model Crumar Performer is the architecture and components of the Brass filter section.

So we'll focus on that in this video, after a quick String Section comparison.

Crumar initially used the Moog Ladder filter for the Performer, and later modified the brass circuitry and switched to a SSM2040 filter.

Not only the components changed - the sound and behaviour of the Brass section itself changed.

There are quite a few opinions out there regarding the two filter sections so let's do some myth busting right away. There's no fool proof indicator of what filter version Crumar Performer you have in your hands just looking at it.

We initially thought the octave switch on the front panel was added together with the SSM filter - incorrect- we've had a Performer without octave switch that still mounted the SSM filter.

Some people say B in the serial number on the back indicates later production run units with SSM filters - also incorrect - these are both marked B but one is equipped with the Moog ladder filter.

Very low serial numbers should generally have the Moog Ladder filter but there's no rule of thumb - you just have to plug in your Performer and listen - or open it up and see which components are on board.

These were just serviced and calibrated according to specs - there's an official procedure for this - the SSM filter model had the SSM2040 switched to a new SSM2140 - without it making any difference on the behaviour or sound of the filter - we tried both."

Tiptop Audio Updates

via Tiptop Audio

"Hello everyone,
We are starting off 2024 by releasing the Model 207t mixer/Preamplifier today. It is now available for pre-orders at our dealers for $245. The 207t mixes the 200t system signals and as your system grows so can the mixer using the stereo expansion inputs to cascade several 207t’s. The monitor and program switches allow for various routing tricks, and the pre-amplifier is where external signals like Microphones, Guitars and line level synths can enter the 200t environment for further processing. The preamp matches levels with the 296t for classic Vocoder patches.

The 207t user manual is now online here.

The 200t project is now entering its 3rd year and there is still a lot more coming. Thanks to your support we are able to bring more of Don’s 200 modules back into existence.

Also, special thanks to Todd Barton for his involvement and all the people out there who makes fantastic demo videos and posts that helps explain the modules and their interactions in the 200 system. [you can find some of Todd's here]

Later on in February, after the NAMM show dust settles down, we are planning to officially release the first set of our ART modules [pic below]. After several years of beta testing we believe it is ready for everyone to start enjoy this new modular synth technology. Recently, we have added power consumption figures to the modules page and soon User Manuals will start appearing. Stay tuned for more ART info."

Country Life | AtoV #Gaeto, After Later Audio #Atom - #jamuary2024 Day 15

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"It's the dreaded day 15 and we're almost half way on this creative journey where nothing is planned and tomorrow is uncertain. But today turned out a really good day.

I wrote a Teletype script two years ago, that was able to extract gate patterns from any CV source. Higher CV would lead to more percussive events.
But I don't see much people writing code for the modular.

So I was hoping that AtoV Gaeto would do the same, but the implementation is a bit different. It expects a shape between 0 and 1 V which is way less than regular utilities will provide, so you'd need to attenuate the hell out of your CV. It also offers some cool gate logic which can be useful for both trigger patterns as square/pulse waves. I've been a bit disappointed because I was hoping it would work like my script. But it's a cool module on its own. I made a few beats, but then realized I was missing something meloduc. I tried ALA Atom again, which is supposed to be an NI Elements clone, but no. It's an ATOM. And it's a bit different. But in the best way possible. I am just using gates to play it, and manual tweaking to make chords."

What is The Vanilla Synthesizer? It's Ready, That's What

via the STG Soundlabs/muSonics Electronic Newsletter:

Is it The Vanilla Synthesizer or the muSonics TVS?

I started working on this project a year and a half ago.

Originally my thought process was to make a new American format synthesiser that could be sold as modules, kits, and bare boards. I was concerned about the future of the format, and I felt a new line of basic modules and infrastructure at a variety of price points was important. I still do.

STG Soundlabs was a failure because I made things that ultimately the eurorack market simply did not want. Yes, I sold some, and will continue to maintain the line as best as I can, but it's very hard to find photos of eurorack installations with STG Soundlabs modules in them, but rare to find a nice big man-sized synthesiser without my modules in it.

Another thing I wanted to do was teach myself how to do my own engineering. It didn't start that way, but it became that way. I'd been a hardware product developer since 2005 but never actually laid out a circuit board. That is no longer true, and I've done things beyond this project that I haven't even talked about.

Knobcon 2023 DivKid Vids

video upload by DivKid

"All DivKid videos from my trip to Chicago, USA for Knobcon 2023"

Playlist:

1. 73-75 era Serge in the black panel 'Quasar' system // Prism Circuits at Knobcon 2023
Here we meet Sky from Prism Circuits who takes us through what he offers in the 4U Serge format, specifically taking us through his black panelled QUASAR system which uses classic 1973 - 1975 era Serge circuits.

2. Uncontrollable Rhythms from Moon Cycles and beyond // Pet Rock at Knobcon 2023
Here's Jonah from Pet Rock taking us through his sell out, sold at cost, first Eurorack module 'Pet Rock'. The module uses moon cycle data and random number generations to create two complimentary or drifting rhythms of varying step lengths and pattern densities. It's a fascinating concept that could lead to "good days and bad days" for your rhythms.

3. QV-L a POWERHOUSE of a Eurorack modulation source // Five12 at Knobcon 2023
Here's Jim Coker of Five12, of numerology and Vector fame, taking us through his new QV-L 'quad variable LFO'. It's a real powerhouse of a modulation module with 4 outputs, multiple clocking and frequency options, internal modulation, random generators, customisable control/performance options, syncing to the Vector sequencer for additional program changes and lots more.

4. NEW way to WAVETABLE! with Alias Zone & Osiris // Chris Meyer & ModBap at Knobcon 2023
Chris Meyer of Learning Modular & Alias Zone has A NEW WAY TO WAVETABLE!

Chris has been working on a new X and Y based wavetable systems that does two fascinating things, firstly it "samples" his whole large studio system while keeping that performable and responsive in the ModBap Modular Osiris and secondly he's using harmonics and interval sets to create morphing tunings within those sounds too.

This wavetable pack will be released for free through the ModBap site in the near future.

5. A Modular Approach to Eurorack Mixing with BARTENDER & BARBACK // After Later Audio at Knobcon 2023
Here we have several new modules from After Later Audio from Knobcon 2023. Lenny takes us through Bartender, Barback and Cast Iron which make up a new expandable, modular approach to Eurorack format mixing.

6. Simple solid clock sync! The Missing Link & ML:2 (Ableton Link) // Circuit Happy at Knobcon 2023
Giving the demo without any audio to listen to is a big move. A bold move made possible by rock solid behaviour from the devices from Circuit Happy. We have The Missing Link Junior and ML:2 Eurorack modules that are both Ableton Link enable devices for not just clock sync and reset but bar position aware behaviours for triggering and syncing to the patterns too. Impressive all round.
7. Better Spring Reverb! (with more filter features than your filter?) // Bubblesound at Knobcon 2023
It was great to meet David from Bubblesound at Knobcon 2023. I've been a long time user of his modules and he's consistently made quality modules over the years. The upcoming Spring Reverb module looks at Spring Reverb options in existence and aims to make them better, a fully featured SEM style multimode filter is on the module so you can really shape what's going into the physical spring, changing it's behaviour and sound. There's on board feedback which David is leaning into in this video too for more experimental patching.

Klavis GRAINITY / Multimode and 'Granular' VCF for eurorack / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"In this video about the so called granular filter GRAINITY (by Klavis) I run through the basic filtersweeps for the multimode section and then I spend a lot (a lot a lot) of time trying to explain and demonstrate what the different granular patterns (called structures) are and what they sound like.

To be clear about what 'granular' is and isn't when we're looking at Grainity I'll try to explain in a few words. Grainity does not sample incoming audio so it's not like any other gear or software with the word granular attached to it. In Grainity incoming audio is routed through the filter, there's no buffer or recording, there's no grains or scattering. What Grainity in granular mode does is send the audio sequentially through different types of filters with different settings (these sequences are all presets). The speed at which it cycles through these is determined by either the phase/frequency (zero crossings) or by another signal of your choosing that you can send in seperately and by the setting of the division. The length and type of the sequence is determined by the 'structure'.
In a very simplified way you could think of a sound going through a filter that gets modulated by a stepped LFO at audio rates.

PS: If you think you're hearing a delay and a reverb, it's probably because I added those. Grainity does not provide delay or reverb effects, it's just a multimode/'granular' filter. The effects used here are a Quadraverb (reverb) and an MPX500 (delay) rack effect.

For the bulk of the video I'm using the TWIN WAVES Mk2 dual oscillator as a sound source.

Thanks to Klavis for sending over these units for me to test and demonstrate.

____________________________________________

Keep in mind that this module is degraded from being a production unit to being a pre-production unit. Unfortunately I didn't learn about this until after I made the video.

I'll copy and paste Eric's quote about this from Modwiggler: 'After receiving our first production batch of the Grainity, we noticed operating inconsistencies due to the variability of certain parts.
In order to maintain the highest level of quality and to avoid jeopardizing the reputation of the brand, we have decided not to put these modules on sale. A redesign is required, which postpones the availability of the Grainity to a later date.

Thank you for your patience while waiting for a Grainity that meets your expectations. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.'"
